MP Matser in cassation to the Supreme Court

GREAT BAY – MP Silvio Matser is taking his conviction for tax fraud to the Supreme Court in The Hague. He filed for cassation yesterday.

Matser’s attorney Cor Merx said that his client has the feeling that he was convicted “in the wrong chamber.” While the attorneys for Matser spoke for more than two hours during the appeals hearing in December, Solicitor-General Ton van der Schans did not react at all to their arguments.

The Common Court of Justice sentenced Matser on January 12 to 22 months of imprisonment, with 18 months suspended and a fine of 150,000 guilders for tax fraud. His defunct Construction Company Energizer was sentenced to a fine of 3.5 million guilders.
